Practicum Programs

Unpaid and Stipend-Paid Practicum Programs in Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal

Year-round practicum placement services including: resume writing assistance, interview preparation, guaranteed practicum placement, and ongoing monitoring and support from Canada’s Work Experience Experts.

Experience Education are specialists in internship, practicum, and co-op placements. Since our founding in 2008, we have placed more than two thousand students at internships, practicums and co-ops in and around Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal.

Our Practicum Programs accept students year round. We take students from Canadian universities or colleges, who are pursuing a practicum (commonly called an 'internship' in Eastern Canada and the United States) for academic credit.

We offer both unpaid practicums and stipend-practicums where students receive a living allowance from their host companies.

Unpaid Practicum Program (Practicum 1)

Unpaid practicums are an introductory work experience with a heavy emphasis on observation and projects. Students do practicums as an essential part of their program of studies. These practicums are unpaid because they are typically shorter, less involved with productive work, and open to students with less experience.

Unpaid practicums can be from 4 weeks to 20 weeks (longer practicums can be done on request), can be full or part time, and are open to students at differing language levels (if ESL/FSL).

Practicums are available in dozens of fields, including:

This is not an exhaustive list of practicum fields, many others are available. Experience Education has the capacity to do placements in fields as diverse and difficult as nuclear medicine, landscape design, and television.

In addition to placement, Experience Education arranges all required documentation, and conducts close monitoring throughout the placement - above and beyond what is required by rules of any of the college regulatory bodies in Canada.

Stipend-Paid Practicum Program (Practicum 2)

Stipend practicum programs are longer term (16 weeks+) unpaid practicums where the student receives a $150 - $200 per week living allowance from the host company. This living allowance is offered to help offset some of the costs of doing a longer unpaid placement. Stipend practicums are for students further along in their studies, or who have past work experience. They are limited to the following fields:

Our stipend-paid practicums are done in:

As the stipend programs are for a longer duration, they allow for students to receive more in depth training, and to be more involved in larger projects and the day to day operations of the business.

Stipend practicum programs begin at 16 weeks, are offered as full-time only, and are restricted to students with an advanced level of English or French - suitable for them to function at a professional level.

Placement Process

From start to finish, it takes 4 weeks to arrange an Unpaid Practicum (Practicum 1) placement, and 8 weeks to arrange a Stipend-Paid Practicum (Practicum 2) placement:

  •  Step 1: 4 or 12 weeks before placement (depending on the program), student completes application form and submits it to Experience Education (EE).
  •  Step 2: EE arranges a consultation with the student. During the consultation an 'Internship Plan' is completed. EE will use this document when speaking to hosts. EE will follow up the consult with a ‘welcome email’ which includes a resume template and information on health and safety, employment standards, and conflict resolution.
  • Step 3. EE assists the student in preparing a suitable resume, and does 1:1 interview preparation with them.
  •  Step 4: EE locates a matching practicum placement and arranges a meeting time for the student and host to discuss the potential match. If the match is great for both sides, the placement is tentatively confirmed.
  •  Step 5: EE submits the placement agreement to the university or college for approval. If approved, the placement is confirmed and the student and host sent the agreement for signature. If the placement is not approved, EE works with the student and host to modify the coop to meet school requirements. If the placement is still not approved, EE returns the student to the interview queue and a new placement is arranged.
